{"id":69093,"date":"2017-01-04T21:03:51","date_gmt":"2017-01-04T20:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tcm.be\/glossarium\/arbitration\/"},"modified":"2026-01-14T23:45:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T22:45:21","slug":"arbitration","status":"publish","type":"glossarium","link":"https:\/\/tcm.be\/en\/glossarium-en\/arbitration\/","title":{"rendered":"Arbitration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Arbitration is a form of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tcm.be\/en\/alternative-dispute-resolution-adr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alternative dispute resolution<\/a>.\u00a0 It aims at resolving disputes out of courts.\u00a0 Avoiding courts has several benefits: the process is usually quicker and less expensive.\u00a0 You can use it in any commercial (or private) dispute. In practice, you need to agree with the other party \u2013 the one you have a dispute with \u2013 on the selection of an arbitrator (or mediator).\u00a0 You also need to agree to abide to this arbitrator\u2019s conclusions.\u00a0 The arbitrator can be anybody but it is recommended to select someone who is knowledgeable about the matter at stake and who has some experience about dispute resolution. If the dispute is complex and you don\u2019t know any suitable arbitrator, you can address attorneys at law.\u00a0 Some of them have developed skills in arbitration process.
