(Invoices, unpaid rent, \u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond that general competence, certain specific powers are attributed to the <strong>Justice of the Peace <\/strong>regardless of the amount of the claim. The Justice of the Peace will therefore hear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>disputes concerning the renting of property;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>disputes concerning joint ownership;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>disputes concerning servitudes, easements, rights of way;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>disputes concerning expropriations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Justice of the Peace<\/strong> also appoints a justice in the jurisdictional bodies, having the power to deliver justice to the citizen. That is why the <strong>justice of the peace<\/strong> also acts as <strong>conciliator<\/strong>. He will try to find an agreement between the two parties. This arrangement is often a compromise via which both parties reduce their claims (<a href=\"https:\/\/tcm.be\/en\/amicable-recovery\/\">Amicable recovery<\/a>). If agreement between the opposing parties cannot be reached, the decision will be taken by the <strong>justice of the peace <\/strong>and both parties are bound to accept that decision as final (<a href=\"https:\/\/tcm.be\/en\/judicial-recovery\/\">Judicial recovery<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Updated 11 Feb 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Definitions provided under this section refer to the Belgian situation; unless specified otherwise.
