Some time agoTCM Belgium, a Leuven-baseddebt collection agency, travelled to distant Limburg. Why? For the well-known conviviality, of course, and for a quick chat with Johny Leten, director with LWB nv, a service-provider in wage administration (subsidiary of SD Worx). Bring on the flan!

Do we have to trot out more clichés? But of course! LWB is typically Limburgs in the sense that it follows the personnel administration of its clients in a very personal and reliable manner and has low staff turnover. Its people clearly seem happy to stay put. So, only good clichés then.

Let’s talk numbers

LWBwas started up in 1996, when it had just 2 workers on its payroll. The wage administration of the own company was therefore not such an intensive job. The workforce has since grown to 27 employees who look after the wage administration of 2 200 clients and the forwarding of more than 10 000 pay slips per month.

Since the start LWB has experiencedconsiderable annual growth, with the biggest influx of clients coming via accountants. Prospection is not even necessary to reach such impressive growth, … Companies from all sectors and all points of the compass can come to LWB, but it’s mainly the small enterprises within a 15 mile radius who beat a path to LWB. So, you don’t always have to look far!

The Holy Trinity

Performing.Advising.Differentiating. That, to put it (very) briefly, is pretty much LWB’s success formula. LWB takes on any and all HR tasks that an employer may have to deal with. Most of the LWB team work as payroll administrators who, besides paying out the wages, also attend to the wage administration. In addition to the payroll administrators there are also administrative staff members that see to the indexations, the social security, withholding tax declarations, etc.

Smaller employers often have many and various HR-related questions, so LWB is therefore also a(social)advisory partner. This may range from the setting up of correct procedures for resignation, discharge or dismissal, etc., through mediation in the National Employment Service inspection, to implementation of wage optimizations. And, on that last point, if the employees want to make plenty of … well, yes, bread, LWB can’t just let them eat cake.

With a smoothly running wage programme any company should, in theory, be able to see to its own wage administration correctly. This success formula is then also digitalized in the form of an easily managed online platform where the necessary documents may be consulted online.

According to LWB, thedifferencelies in the approach to the clients, parting company with the big social secretariats. Johny:“We do just everything, the complete administration and serving the formal notices of default, the cancellations,… That way employers can get on with their own core business and don’t have to concern themselves with personnel and labour laws. And perhaps the main difference; employer-employee relations remain intact.”

As we listen to Johny’s proud account of LWB, we also pick up on a number of correspondences with the way we work inTCM Belgium. Johny:“What makes working for LWB really exciting is the contact with the clients and the difference we can make for them, by offering the right advice or mediating with employers and the authorities. True, you shoulder your share of responsibility, the whole process has to do with money and that can often be a tricky business.”

The core tasks of TCM Belgium concern in equal measure (the recovery of) money and the advising of clients as to the most opportune way to that money. A good client contact (to creditor and debtor alike), with TCM Belgium acting ashonestbroker, is an essential part of our work.

We asked Johny whether they worked withunpaid invoicesand what they did to avoid this as far as possible.“If we send unpaid invoices to TCM it’s usually because of slapdash administration client-side. That’s why we therefore try to work as far as possible with direct debits. Our invoices are usually modest, so they tend to get pushed aside. We’re not first in line to be paid in any case.

And, as we repeated post on ourTCM blog, Johny brings up a crucial key point:“In the interest of prevention of unpaid items we ensure transparent invoices and clear arrangements.”

In closing we ask him about his view on the cooperation with TCM:“We take on our clients’ complete wage administration, TCM Belgium does exactly the same for unpaid bills. We mustn’t put our clients ourselves under pressure, and the unpaid bills go from the accountant to TCM automatically. And this outsourcing allows us to keep up a most efficient cooperation with TCM, particularly as the unpaid bills are often only small amounts. This plus the possibility of working towards amicable settlements, where the debtor can pay through the payment terminal, is certainly a value added.”
