De Bosdreef finds a solution for its unpaid invoices with TCM!
A few weeks ago, the Flemish Veterinary Association (VDV) initiated a collaboration with the collection company TCM. Given the growing number of unpaid invoices in the sector, we felt it necessary to introduce this problem to our members to support and reassure them.
Our colleague Bernard Boussauw, co-founder of the De Bosdreef veterinary clinic, testifies to his recent experience with the collection company TCM Belgium:
The De Bosdreef Veterinary Clinic
, founded in 1993 in Moerbeke-Waas, is a specialized veterinary clinic for horses as well as for small pets. For more than 20 years, De Bosdreef has enjoyed a strong reputation, both nationally and internationally, thanks to the wide range of medical services it offers: Surgery, orthopedics and imaging – including MRI, scintigraphy, Endoscopy and soon, in their new buildings, CT scanner – are some of their services. Currently, a team of 12 veterinarians and a dozen employees working with them manage over 10,000 consultations a year, unfortunately leading to the problem of unpaid invoices.
Internal policy
Once an invoice is in default, De Bosdreef first plans an internal administrative follow-up. In principle, up to two reminders are sent and telephone contacts are established with the customer. If after two months the invoice is still not settled, we then rely on an external partner.
Before and Now
Although we had a very good collaboration with the lawyer we used, De Bosdreef now prefers to turn to
, even for Belgian files. TCM provides a fast and professional approach to the customer and thanks to VDV membership, recovery costs are almost fully covered. Another advantage is that TCM supports all invoices, regardless of their importance. In addition, the monthly contact established with Kimberly, TCM employee, is going very well.
Everyone knows this problem
Consultations on domestic animals by two of our veterinarians are also experiencing this problem. If one also should take a lawyer to recover these amounts, the game is not worth the candle. Naturally there are the costs of a summons to be assumed, but since one can never be certain of the debtor’s creditworthiness and that a favorable judgment will never place us in the position of a privileged creditor, the initiation of a judicial procedure does not seem to be the preferred option.
Solutions
Although one might think that people who own horses are rich, we can find that many people have not thought of saving money in case of a problem. Unlike Great Britain where 90% of horses are insured, we see that in Belgium few people provide for health insurance whereas this insurance can cover both the large expenses for both large and small animals. As an example, you can cover your horse against its loss of value, natural death, colic and much more. Moreover, this type of insurance leads to better medicine because, thanks to this mechanism, all the problems, outside the financial history, can be solved.

VDV conducted its investigation well and as members, collaboration with TCM offers you advantages. TCM contrasts with the other collection offices by offering visits to the debtor’s home. Once on site, the visitor gathers all the information obtained so that you can decide, for example, whether you want to recover the legal interest of delays or contractual damages. What is interesting is that as a creditor you can always continue to make business decisions and you can always add amounts to the amount already claimed, for example following an administrative error. The fact of being able to consult online the evolution of your file step by step is also an interesting fact even if it is not necessary given the close and personalized relationship that we have with our file manager Kimberly. Currently, we have already recovered 90% of the files transmitted and this within three weeks from the communication of the files. Our start with TCM is already a success!
