CMR Convention

Glossary

The CMR legislation governs the international carriage of goods by road. It is based on the Geneva Convention (1956) and sets out the rights, obligations, and liability of carriers and consignors. A CMR consignment note serves as proof of the transport contract and provides information about the goods and the parties involved. The legislation limits the carrier’s liability in the event of loss of or damage to the goods, unless there is intent or gross negligence, and also establishes the limitation periods for claims.
